Some feedback on the book:
Those most in touch with American culture continue to see racial reconciliation as one of the most pressing issues of our time. When I read Christian Smith and Michael Emerson's DIVIDED BY FAITH (New York: Oxford, 2001), I felt both enlightened and depressed! And then a few years later I read Brenda Salter McNeil and Rick Richardson's THE HEART OF RACIAL JUSTICE (Downers Grove: IVP, 2004). To me, it read like an operation manual to Smith and Emerson's book. I found myself brimming with hope that with God's help, the church can indeed do its part in overcoming racism in America. I urgently recommend this book for teaching/preaching, small group study, and community action.

Brenda, your book literally changed the way I look at the world. It made me realize that diversity is not something we must tolerate, but it is crucial for true growth. The more diverse our communities are the more rich and meaningful our lives will be. We must embrace diversity, and even crave it… because it is a precious and valuable gift. I also learned that the closer I am to the heart of God, the more I will naturally care about the things that God cares about. I have sought after God’s heart and found that justice is now very precious to me, as it is to God. Thank you for your book and your words of wisdom. I appreciate your voice in this world.
